EP1: Time to Think

by Grasslands

/
1.
You know, when it’s known We all go, when it’s shown That’s the way Some drugs, all drugs Yes drugs, no drugs That’s the way That’s the way I rationalise everything You know, when it’s known We all go, when it’s shown That’s the way That’s the way I rationalise everything
2.
There’s a light, and it shines on through At first sight, it seems so cold When you get up close, it gives off a green glow And then you can look into the whole universe Is this right? It feels so wrong This insight, shows too much Does the beat of this heart keep causing you pain? If it does, then let it make your heart race again There’s a light, and it shines on through When it’s night, I see the light With a confused mind and a stone-cold spade You will keep digging holes until you find something buried in one There’s a light, and it shines on through At first sight, it seems so cold When you get up close, it gives off a green glow And then you can look into the whole universe Make pain create
3.
How did it come to this? Why am I sitting here? When I sleep at home, my eyes never close Balls up on hills, balls up in the sky When the sky goes dark, all of the night I wait And I feel more secure in the night when I know your there You wait, for why I don’t know I cannot cope with this, this cannot be real I have seen things before, but all of these things were lies At least I think they were, time always changes minds The past comes back in strands, all that I have is here And I feel like I know it’s not a lie and I see the truth Now I can’t come home and I know
4.
Once I saw vampire in the way I was impressed, he had a red rose and a radar He was standing in a parade with a smile on his face, as he started the race All I could wonder, was why I was here and why he was there And he kept me wondering About how he managed to block out the sun He had a PVC coat, big stupid boots He looked a bit of a twat, but then most vampires do I came here to hide, all the chairs have fallen down A single one in the window, looking down, on the old town People say, there’s no vamp in the way But if there’s not, then what the hell is that? With big white teeth carrying a rose and a grudge Get out of my way, you’re in my way People think I’m crazy, just because lately, I’ve been seeing vampires in my way I don’t want to go home, it’s not safe I sure know, but better the devil you know
5.
The late shift it occupies all my mind But the late shift, it takes away, all my light When I walk through the aisles, of the shadows of death, I see Mars bars Stocking up the aisles, towering high When you see a customer, try and hide Warehouse walls and these pallets, by my side I feel so much safer, than outside When I walk through the aisles, of the shadows of death, I see Mars bars

about

This is the first volume of songs connected to ‘Grasslands’, a novel about a little boy and a giant gravity defying copper ball.

The story will unfold across 4 EPs. The novel is hidden within these songs and each song relates to a key moment in the story.

This opening chapter sees Andrew Autumn struggling to cope with his surroundings and questioning the nature of his imagination.
